Opera Desktop Browser Now Comes With Free, Unlimited VPN

Opera Software, that Norwegian software company popularly known for its Opera browsers, has announced that its desktop browser will now come integrated with free, unlimited VPN (or Virtual Private Network) for better online privacy. In case you didn’t know, a VPN allows you to browse the web more private, helps you to access region-restricted websites and shields your browsing when on public Wi-Fi. With this feature, users don’t have to download VPN extensions or pay for VPN subscriptions. VPNs are now a big deal worldwide due to privacy and other concerns. In fact, according to Global Web Index, more than half a billion people (24% of the world’s internet population) have tried or are currently using VPN services. And what are the reasons for this sudden upsurge in VPN usage? For access to better entertainment content (38%); to keep anonymity while browsing (30%); to access restricted networks and sites in my country (28%), and to access restricted sites at work (27%). Other reasons include to communicate with friends/family abroad (24%) and to access restricted news websites in my country (22%). These concerns are part of the reasons why Opera Software launched this feature. Opera also went one step further to make the VPN unlimited and free because most VPN services and proxy servers out there have been limited and based on a paid subscription. Features such as Hide your IP address; Unblocking of firewalls and Public Wi-Fi security, are integrated. To activate the VPN features, Mac users just need to click the Opera menu, select “Preferences” and toggle the feature VPN on, while Windows and Linux users need to go to the “Privacy and Security” section in “Settings” and enable VPN there. opera-vpn A button will appear in the browser address field, from which the user can see and change location (more locations will appear later), check whether their IP is exposed and review statistics for their data used. “Everyone deserves to be private online if they want to be. In this developer release of the feature, users can choose from one of three virtual locations – USA, Canada and Germany – but more locations will be available in the stable version of the Opera browser.
